sabaki.vault Privacy Policy

sabaki.vault is an Android app for collecting and practicing dance-class videos. It is built by Sabaki Dance (Magnus Gödde) and works without an account and without a server: your videos, notes and practice progress live on your device only.

There is exactly one feature that talks to the internet, and only when you use it: looking up the name of a dance studio while you type it. It is described under Venue name lookup below. Everything else — recording, importing, playback, loops, notes, tags, learning, backup — runs with no network at all.

This policy applies only to the sabaki.vault mobile app. The website sabaki.dance has a separate privacy policy.

Videos you record or import, plus related local metadata (for example recording date, trim range, playback speed, favorites, and learning schedule), are stored only on your device in the app’s private storage.

Videos are not uploaded to Sabaki Dance servers, and they are not mixed into your system gallery / Google Photos by default.

• Camera — used only when you record a dance video in the app.
• Microphone — used only when you record a dance video in the app (audio with the recording).
• Location — optional, off by default. If you switch on “Remember the place”, the app reads your position once in the seconds after videos are added, so a batch of videos can be labelled with the studio you are standing in. The position is used to match the venues you have named yourself; it is stored on your device and is never attached to a video file. Switching the setting off stops it entirely.
• Notifications — optional. Used only for the practice reminders you turn on yourself. They are generated on your device; no notification service knows what is in your vault.
• Internet — used only for the venue name lookup described below.

The app does not request access to your contacts or phone account.

You can label a video with the place it came from (“Gio Dancestudio”). To offer suggestions while you type, the app queries the Google Places API. This is the only outbound request sabaki.vault makes.

What is sent, and only while you are actively typing in the “Place” field:

• the text you typed (for example “gio tanz”);
• an approximate position, if you have switched location on, so that nearby studios rank first;
• a technical identifier of the app installation required by Google to authorise the request.

What is never sent: your videos, thumbnails, notes, tags, loops, practice progress, or anything else from your vault. The request carries no account and no user ID, and results are not stored anywhere except as the venue name you choose to save on your device.

The same lookup is used once after you add videos to suggest the name of the place you are standing in, which you then confirm or overwrite. Google acts as our processor for these requests; their handling of data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

If you never type in the Place field and leave location off, the app makes no network requests at all.

The app can write a backup of your whole vault to a folder you pick, and can repeat that once a day. If you pick a folder that is synchronised to a cloud service (a Google Drive folder, for example), your backup travels to that service under your own account and its terms — Sabaki Dance neither receives nor can read it.

sabaki.vault does not require an account or sign-in. It does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting backends, or other third-party tracking in the current product design. Apart from the venue name lookup described above, the app sends nothing anywhere.

We do not sell your data. Because videos and metadata stay on your device, we do not operate a cloud copy of your vault for this app.

If you use the system share sheet to export a video (for example to WhatsApp), that transfer is controlled by you and by the app you share to. sabaki.vault does not upload the file on your behalf to Sabaki servers.

You can delete individual videos inside the app. Uninstalling sabaki.vault removes the app’s private storage on that device, including locally stored videos and metadata.

Because we do not host a cloud copy of your vault, there is no server-side vault for us to erase after uninstall.

sabaki.vault is not directed at children. It is intended for adults managing their own dance practice videos.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
